The international disability day observed at Satkhira and Manikgonj on 3rd December 2016. DRRA celebrate this day in every year emphasizing the aspects to improve the lives of persons with disabilities. The theme of the day was “Achieving 17 Goals for the Future We Want”, which draws attention to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and how these goals can create a more inclusive and equitable world for persons with disabilities.
This year, DRRA observed the day jointly with the government and different stakeholders in different places. In Satkhira Rights to Empowerment for the Disabled (RED) project of DRRA organized a rally and a mass gathering. The representatives of the government and non-government organizations, persons with disabilities, and the community people participated the rally and gathering.
The District Administration and Department of Social Services organized a discussion meeting on the day. Mr. Abul Kashem Mohammad Mohiuddin, the Deputy Commissioner of Satkhira was present as Chief Guest, Harun-Ur-Rashid, Assistant Deputy Director, Department of Social Services, Shahidur Rahman, Social Service Officer, Md. Rokonuzzaman, Social Service Officer Sadar were present in the event. A memorandum submitted to the Deputy Commissioner, Satkhira by Doli Khatun on behalf of DRRA and Person with disabilities to protect their rights and ensure equal opportunities for them. After the discussion session a cultural program was held by persons with disabilities.
