Among others, Manikgonj district is affected worst by the floods in early July 2016. The 4 Upazila of the district (Shibaloya, Doulatpur, Harirampur, and Ghior) is affected by the floods. 335 villages of these 4 Upazila are fully affected while other 440 villages are partly affected by the devastating floods. 4500 houses fully and 3800 houses partially damaged in Manikgonj.
In response to the emergency needs of flood-affected people, DRRA distributed foods and washing items to 1200 flood affected families of people with disabilities and other affected people of Shivalaya Upazila. The emergency relief contains 20 kg Rice, 2 Kg Lentil, one litre cooking oil, 1 kg salt, 1 kg sugar, 1 kg Suji (Baby food), 5 packets Oral Rehydration saline (ORS) 2 soaps and 1 packet bleaching powder. The distribution of relief program was inaugurated on August 31, 2016, by Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Shibaloya. Local community people, Upazila Government officials, local government representatives, volunteers, NGO representatives, representatives of Disabled People Organization (DPO), representatives from the donor organization CBM and DRR staff were present during relief distribution. The relief item was distributed to the most affected families of three Union Psaishads named Aroua, Taota, and Shivalaya. Before relief distribution, DRRA conducted a survey at door steps among the flood affected people of Shivalaya Upazila especially the most affected 3 Union Psaishads. The relief items distributed by DRRA under its project ‘Emergency relief work for persons with disabilities and other community people affected by Floods 2016’ supported by CBM.
